ERLANGER - A 10-year-old boy was transported by helicopter to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Thursday after he was struck by a car.
The boy, whose name is not being released by police, was riding his bike on Brightleaf Boulevard about 6:40 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a car driven by Henry Backer, 18, of Erlanger.
Backer, a resident of the subdivision, was not injured.
Lt. Kevin Gilpin said a preliminary investigation indicated that Backer was not speeding, nor was alcohol a factor.
"The driver was not doing anything wrong," he said.
Gilpin said Backer was traveling south on Brightleaf and the boy was riding his bike southbound on the opposite side of the street when the boy turned his bike around into the path of the car.
Gilpin said police believe other children were also out in the area with the boy at the time of the accident. Gilpin said the boy was wearing a helmet. His condition was not available Friday.
The Erlanger Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team investigated, and no charges are expected to be filed, Gilpin said.
