A new advocacy group for women's health is planning its first conference Oct. 1 in Kenwood.
The Foundation for Female Health Awareness will hold a women's health day at the Kenwood Country Club, 6501 Kenwood Road. Keynote speaker is Yvonne T. Green, the director of women's health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Topics at the conference will include bladder and general health, heart disease, vein solutions, plastic surgery, ovarian and breast cancers, menopause, high risk pregnancy and yoga.
Dr. Mickey Karram, who established the foundation with his wife, Mona, says the foundation's aims are to provide women with up-to-date, research-based information on managing their health and on raising funds to research important issues in women's health.
Karram is a urogynecologist with Tristate Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital.
"We want to provide simple, unbiased information in an effort to help women make their health care decisions," Karram says.
Karram hopes the conference will eventually expand outside the Cincinnati area.
The group is also launching a magazine on female health with Dowden Health Media that will be distributed in physician's offices.
