This summer, I have received a number of questions about which program, which trainer and which supplement is best.
These are great questions but there is too much focus on what I call the "outer shell of fitness." We need more focus on the intrinsics of fitness.
No matter how "great" a program you use, success depends on you actually showing up and doing exactly what program parameters are set forth. No matter how good the trainer, if the client fails to step up, break out of comfort zones and do what is asked, they will not get desired results.
The original intent for all fitness programs and products is to complement/improve an already existing program or provide guidelines for starting a safe and effective program for those who wish to start one. However, there is an expectation that the participant is to actually work for all results.
The most basic program of exercise and nutrition can yield positive results if most people would actually stick to it and stay consistent. People quit after not getting quick results and opt for quick fixes, fads and infomercial diets that only help people lose weight in their pocketbooks.
Focus on what is best for you.
Begin by thinking about what your goals are and then consult your doctor, a fitness/nutritional professional and have them design something specifically for you. Set short-term goals and work to educate yourself on the basics of fitness and nutrition by reading, talking to fitness pros, athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Not only will you learn what to do, your research will also bring you in contact with people who can teach you what not to do. No journey can be manufactured; you have to take your time and do it in person.
