Pedestrian killed on Middletown street
MIDDLETOWN - A 73-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Friday by a car traveling south on Charles Street at Clayton Street, police said.
Eva Hampton was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton after being taken there by helicopter, according to police.
Sharon Hayes of Franklin drove the car that struck Hampton as she walked from the east side of Charles Street toward the west, police said.
There is no crosswalk at the intersection, and the only traffic control is a stop sign for Clayton Street traffic.
An investigation continued Friday evening; no charges had been filed.
Man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide
Nicholas Hedges faces at least two years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine and a mandatory lifetime driving suspension, Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel said.
Hedges was driving north on I-75 in Franklin March 4 when his pickup veered off the road and struck a car that was stopped on the berm. Hedges' truck then hit Brandon Patton, 20, who had stayed with the disabled car.
A test indicated that Hedges had a blood-alcohol level of 0.171, over twice the legal limit of 0.08.
