"And this one belongs to the Reds," took on new meaning as the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund and the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum celebrated the museum's opening.
Co-chaired by the chairman of the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund Owen Wrassman and his wife, Jan, the evening provided two levels of participation. Some 150 guests paid $750 each to enjoy a patrons' cocktail reception, which featured a tour of the museum and special gifts, such as a Louisville Slugger bat autographed by Reds Hall of Famers.
The patrons were joined by the 2004 Reds team and coaches as well as by Reds Hall of Fame members Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Sparky Anderson, George Foster, Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey Sr., Jack Billingham, Leo Cardenas, Clay Carrol, Wayne Granger, Jim Maloney, Joe Nuxhall and Mario Soto.
Patrons and honored guests were joined by 300 more for the second portion of the evening, a $250 per plate dinner.
Among the many distinguished guests attending this red-tie-optional evening were Reds owner Carl H. Lindner Jr., with his grandson, Carl H. Lindner IV; executive director and curator of the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum Greg Rhodes and his wife, Sallie Westheimer, and Reds radio broadcaster Marty Brennaman.
