Bones found at Longview not human, coroner says
Public safety
The Enquirer
Bones discovered by construction workers Monday morning on the site of the old Longview State Hospital in the Roselawn-Bond Hill area are not human remains, the Hamilton County coroner said.
A construction worker operating a backhoe on the site in the 6700 block of Steger Drive unearthed the bones, Dr. Carl L. Parrott Jr. said.
An examination determined that they were animal bones, probably from beef discarded from the old hospital's kitchen facilities, he said.
Old pottery, crockery and silverware unearthed along with the bones indicated they were probably discarded as garbage, Dr. Parrott said.
Longview is now called Summit Behavioral Healthcare.
Cause of fatal Franklin fire still under investigation
FRANKLIN - Authorities continue to investigate what caused a fire in an apartment that killed a Franklin man Saturday.
The victim, whose name and age have not been released, was dead when firefighters arrived at the scene, Franklin fire officials said.
At least three other people were in the building when the fire broke out. No one else was hurt.
Firefighters entered the three-unit apartment building at 101 N. Main St. about 10:30 p.m. on a report of a fire with a person trapped inside. A Franklin police officer got inside the burning apartment and pulled the man out as firefighters arrived, said Franklin Fire Chief Jonathan Westendorf.
The fire started in the victim's apartment. The amount of damage was not known.
Autopsy done on man struck by bull in Walton
The Hamilton County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy Monday on a man who died after being struck by a bull.
Charles Davis, 24, of Walton died at University Hospital on Sunday. Results of the autopsy were not immediately available.
Sheriff's deputies said Davis was apparently injured after taking part Saturday in a contest known as the Ring of Fear. It involves audience members entering the ring with a loose bull.
Davis was hit by a bull during the contest but refused medical treatment, deputies said. He collapsed a short time later.
Operators of 3 Bar F Rodeo, who held the contest at Crittenden Park, couldn't be reached for comment.
