Networks shift lineups for debate

TV notes

Enquirer news services

CBS and NBC would like you to know that the 9 p.m. Thursday time slot will take place on Wednesday this week.

The networks rearranged their schedules to accommodate the first presidential debate (9 p.m. Thursday). Debates are also scheduled for Oct. 8 and Oct. 13, with a vice-presidential debate set for next Tuesday.

NBC is moving The Apprentice to 9 p.m. Wednesday. CBS followed suit by moving CSI - albeit a repeat - to the same hour.

The CSI rerun will lead into a new episode of CSI: NY at 10 p.m. CBS' premieres of The King of Queens and Center of the Universe will be moved back to Oct. 6.

NBC's ER and CBS' Without a Trace will take Thursday off.

Survivor: Vanuatu is still set to air at 8 p.m. Thursday on CBS, preceding the debate.

Neuwirth joins 'Law & Order': Two-time Emmy winner Bebe Neuwirth (Cheers) will play an assistant district attorney in Law & Order: Trial by Jury, which is scheduled to debut at midseason. She joins Jerry Orbach, continuing his long-running Law & Order role as Detective Lennie Briscoe.

Fred Thompson, who plays D.A. Arthur Branch on Law & Order, will also be a regular.

Give thanks to 'Seinfeld': Coinciding with the first release of Seinfeld on DVD, NBC will air a retrospective called The Seinfeld Story on Thanksgiving night. The one-hour special, hosted by Jerry Seinfeld, will feature clips and interviews with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards.

In addition to the cast interviews, the special will also feature co-creator Larry David talking about how the show slowly built its following until it became NBC's No. 1 show.

The first three seasons of Seinfeld are scheduled to be released on DVD Nov. 23.

In addition to reminding viewers of the availability the day before the biggest shopping day of the year, The Seinfeld Story might also help ratings. In a change, Thanksgiving falls during the November sweeps period.
