Miami student charged with rape

OXFORD - A Miami University student arrested last year in a sexual attack on a student was arrested again Tuesday and charged with raping another student.

Oxford police said Jason D. Landis, 25, of the 200 block of East Chestnut St., is accused of raping the 22-year-old woman at his apartment. The student, according to police, was raped between midnight and 2 a.m. and then drove herself to her residence. She then drove to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital.

Police said they were notified by hospital officials and began their investigation, leading to the arrest of Landis and charging him with the felony charge of rape.

The victim underwent surgery and is recovering.

In October 2003 Landis was charged with sexual assault and burglary involving another female Miami University student, authorities said. Later in November Landis pleaded guilty to lesser charges of sexual imposition and aggravated trespass - both misdemeanors. In that case, he entered a female's dorm room in Scott Hall, said Miami University spokesman Richard Little.

Little said that before Landis was sentenced in March, Miami officials had "barred him from ever living on campus again and from ever having contact with the victim."

Landis was also suspended in October 2003 for the rest of the academic year through this summer's semester, said Little.

Although Landis had been allowed to continue as a student during the fall semester he remained on disciplinary probation, which could lead to his immediate expulsion for any further violations, added Little.

Landis was being held without bond in Butler County Jail pending scheduling of a preliminary hearing.
