Sips: Wine
A portrait of the English actress Lillie Langtry graces the label of Guenoc 2000 Petite Sirah North Coast ($15.99). It's a fitting tribute - not only because she owned the vineyard in Lake County, Calif., from 1888 to 1906, but because this full-bodied wine is as captivating as the woman who was the mistress of King Edward VII. Made from grapes grown in the Guenoc Valley, it has an enticing, earthy aroma of black cherry and spice. In the mouth, this dry red is rich and flavorful. A taste of blackberry gives way to chocolate overtones, with pepper on the finish.
