SYCAMORE TWP. - In the latest Internet sex sting by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, a 47-year-old Mississippi man was arrested this week when he showed up for a date with what he thought was a teenage girl.
Mark Randy Magee of Hattiesburg, Miss., is accused of trying to engage in sexual conduct with a minor. He faces two counts of importuning and one count of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, police records show.
Magee was held on suicide watch Friday at the Hamilton County Justice Center on $45,000 bond, police records show.
He was arrested about 7 p.m. Thursday at Galbraith and Kenwood roads after a short investigation by Detective Rick Sweeney, a sheriff's deputy assigned to a unit that targets Internet sex crimes.
Over the past few days, the detective, pretending to be a 14-year-old girl, chatted with Magee in an Internet chat room.
On Thursday, Magee arranged to meet the "14-year-old" at the intersection, after which he would take her to a hotel.
Law enforcement officials later learned Magee had already booked a hotel room and had a digital camera and sexual aids.
A man listed as Magee's next of kin on the arrest report hung up on a reporter.
