Unretired Trinidad ready for Mayorga

Enquirer staff and wire reports

Felix Trinidad is ending more than two years of retirement by taking on another top fighter, Ricardo Mayorga, in a 12-round middleweight bout at about 10:30 p.m. today at Madison Square Garden.

Trinidad knows he needs to be careful after what recently happened to Oscar De La Hoya and Roy Jones Jr. - both were knocked out last month. A loss to the unpredictable Mayorga, a former welterweight champ, might stymie any shot at a rematch with Bernard Hopkins, who handed Trinidad his lone defeat after 41 victories.

"I'm ready for everything Mayorga brings to the table," Trinidad said. "It's boxing, and as long as he sticks to boxing and brings everything to the table for boxing, I'm ready for him."
