Popular statues stay another month
Neighborhood briefs
The Enquirer
HAMILTON - The lifelike bronze statues by artist J. Seward Johnson Jr. will be hanging around Courthouse Square for another month.
Trudy Marcum, president of Hamilton's nonprofit City of Sculpture committee, says the exhibit has been extended for a fourth month, through October. "The response to this traveling exhibition has been remarkable," she says.
A description of all 20 statues - and information about self-guided walking tours - are available online at www.cityofsculpture.org.
Finance committee vacancy is filled
DEERFIELD TWP. - Trustees have filled a vacant seat on the finance committee and appointed two other township residents as alternates.
W. Kelly Montgomery was chosen to fill the seat previously filled by Walt Daniels, who resigned to serve on the township's storm water board. Roger Cupp and Jeffrey Weiner will serve as alternates. All three will serve until their terms expire Dec. 31, and then the board will reappoint them to their respective spots in January.
Flu shots available at senior center
HAMILTON - The Health Department will administer flu shots at the Hamilton Senior Center, 140 Ross Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 and again on Election Day, Nov. 2.
The clinic is open to those who are at least 65 years old or who have a chronic health condition. People covered by Medicare Part B do not have to pay for the shots; those covered by Medicare with private insurance or who are under 65 will pay $10. Information: (513) 867-1998, ext. 243.
Law officers honored with new memorial
MILFORD - A memorial honoring law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty will be dedicated here Saturday with a special tribute to the most recent Clermont County deputy to die on the job.
The wife and family of Samuel Rouvier, who died May 21, 1966, in a car crash while on an investigation, will attend the 2 p.m. dedication of the memorial, which honors all law enforcement officials.
The memorial, at Ohio 131 and U.S. 50 near the Milford Community Fire Department, is a stone monument surrounded by flags.
Rezoning decision delayed until 25th
MASON - City Council has delayed a decision on rezoning nearly 77 acres along Ohio 741.
They'll address the issue again at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the municipal building, 6000 Mason-Montgomery Road. Council has had two meetings to discuss the rezoning.
Representatives of the developer and property owners have argued that soil conditions and utility easements that cut across the property prevent development under the current light industrial use. They hope council will rezone it to allow residential use, though the city's master plan calls for businesses in that area.
