When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka (Anchor; $9.95). Otsuka's debut novel is the story of what happens to a Japanese-American family before and after their internment for more than three years in an enemy alien camp in Utah during World War II. While not a memoir, Otsuka's own family also was interned. Author lecture/reading: 7 p.m. today, College of Mount St. Joseph Theatre, 5701 Delhi Road, Delhi Township; (513) 244-4724. Free and open to the public.

Jazzwomen: Conversations with Twenty-One Musicians by Wayne Enstice and Janis Stockhouse (Indiana University Press; $39.95; includes CD). Author signing/discussion: 11 a.m. Saturday, Books & Co., Town and Country Shopping Center, 350 E. Stroop Road, Kettering; (937) 298-6540.
