LOVELAND - Harold William Penn died Tuesday at The Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash. He was 64.
"He was a strong influence. He gave us a strong base to raise our kids," said his daughter, Carrie Goddard of Fairfield.
Born and raised in Bellaire, Mr. Penn attended Miami University in Oxford and received a bachelor's degree in business in 1962. He later earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1967.
After college, Mr. Penn worked for several life insurance companies in Cincinnati and in Michigan before starting an actuary service, Benefit Advisors Inc. in Troy, Mich., in the late 1970s. A few years later, he helped form Actuarial & Benefit Consultants Inc., also in Troy.
He was a Fellow in The Society of Actuariesa member with the American Academy of Actuaries and American Society of Pension Actuaries.
In 1990, Mr. Penn moved to Marco Island, Fla., where he was the president of the Marco Island Mens Club and treasurer of the Sailing Association of Marco Island.
He returned to Cincinnati in 1997 and became a Shriner, volunteering at Cincinnati Shriners Hospital. He was a member of Coldstream Country Club in Loveland and the Royal Oak Country Club in Michigan.
He was a toy train enthusiast and a collector of stamps and coins.
Mr. Penn is survived by his wife, Millicent, of Loveland; another daughter, Meredith Penn of Fairfield; a brother, Robert, of Gainesville, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 8101 Beechmont Ave.
