GREEN TWP. - William Lee Moore was known as "poppy seed" because of his love of gardening.
Marita Moore, his wife of 58 years, said her husband could often be found tending to their five acres.
Mr. Moore died Thursday at his home. He was 82.
"He was a good husband and a wonderful father," Mrs. Moore said.
Born and raised in Fairmount, Mr. Moore joined the Navy in 1942 and served as a gunner's mate on the USS Arcturus during World War II.
After the war he was hired as a mechanic by Queen City Metro, where he worked for the next 46 years until retiring in 1987..
"I don't think he missed one day in all that time," his wife said. "He loved that job."
Mr. Moore was a lifelong member of the Fairmount VFW Post 4962. He was a member of the Cincinnati Police Masonic Lodge and a trustee at the Baltimore Pike Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Howard and Charles; a sister, Ann; sons, William L. and Richard A.Moore; daughters, Linda Bowman and Kimberly Mollman; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Rebold, Rosenacker and Sexton Funeral Home, 3700 Glenmore Ave. in Cheviot, followed by the interment at noon at Baltimore Pike Cemetery.
