JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It was just a 24-minute scrimmage among teammates, but the dynamic glimpses offered up by Grant Hill on Saturday night made anything suddenly seem possible for the Orlando Magic.
There were the two dunks in transition.
There were the two times he directed the pick-and-roll to perfection.
And there were the flashes of completeness that only multi-dimensional players of Hill's caliber can pull off.
Yes, it was just a meaningless intrasquad scrimmage, but to Hill the beginning of his final comeback from injury produced plenty of reasons to smile. In just under 20 minutes of action, Hill had 10 points, four assists and four rebounds.
"To not have been out there in a game in 20-odd months, it was a really good night for me," Hill said. "I moved well and I felt pretty good."
Three times before, his ankle gave out by January, and doctors kept him out all of last season. He has said there will be no more surgeries and no more comebacks and that things have to go his way this season or else retirement looms.
LAKERS: Karl Malone showed up at Los Angeles Lakers training camp Saturday to visit old teammates and club officials. His visit was purely social and had no bearing on whether he might play this season, team officials said.
Malone has said he's not ready to play but hasn't ruled out returning this season.
