E.W. Scripps Co. has expanded its network of cable-television channels with the $140 million cash purchase of Great American Country from Jones Media Networks Ltd. The 24-hour country music video network was launched in 1996 and is distributed to about 34 million households nationwide though cable and satellite systems. Other Scripps networks include Home & Garden Television, Food Network, Do It Yourself and Fine Living.

Middletown's AK Steel has received a quality award from Integris Metals, a Minneapolis, Minn.-based metals distributor. AK was lauded for the quality of its flat-rolled stainless steel shipped to Integris through the third quarter.
