Portune protest to be heard Oct. 28
Hamilton County voters must wait to find out whether County Commissioner Todd Portune was falsely accused of breaking his pledge not to raise taxes. Republican opponent David Grossmann's newspaper ad, run in the Enquirer and Community Press newspapers, said Democrat "Todd Portune broke his pledge to limit taxes. Now you can pledge to limit Todd Portune." The Ohio Elections Commission voted 3-2 Thursday to wait until Oct. 28 to hear Portune's argument that the ad is untrue, according to Executive Director Philip Richter. Grossmann's attorney asked for the extra time because he was not able to take a deposition from Portune before the hearing.

John Gilligan; former Cincinnati mayor Roxanne Qualls; and Vice Mayor Alicia Reece.
Woods omitted from site study
Bishop Woods on Miami University's Oxford campus was not listed Thursday among three sites that will undergo further study as the location of a new business school. Bishop Woods, less than 3 acres of trees that since 1986 have been allowed to grow wild, was not taken off the list of possible sites, but students, faculty and residents learned at a campus forum Thursday that Kreger Hall, Reid Hall and Western College playing fields will undergo further study as possible sites. The campus planning committee is expected to make a site recommendation next month to Miami's board of trustees.
