Miami-Middletown invites seniors

MIDDLETOWN - Miami University-Middletown hosts "High School Senior Night," 6 p.m. Tuesday in Johnston Hall, 4200 E. University Blvd. Pizza will be served at 5:45 p.m.
Information will be presented on campus life, curriculum, financial aid and scholarships, the application process, student support services, and relocating to Miami University in Oxford after starting at Miami-Middletown.

Lakota hosts levy information session
LIBERTY TWP. - Lakota Superintendent Kathleen Klink will continue a series of coffees to answer questions about the 7.7-mill combination levy that will appear on the Nov. 2 ballot.
The issue would provide $80.3 million. Taxes would increase $236 annually on a $100,000 house.
Next week's meetings are 7 p.m. Monday at Shawnee Elementary, 9394 Sterling Road, and 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Elementary, 5052 Hamilton-Mason Road.
Cheerleaders and dancers compete
MASON - The River City Classic Cheer and Dance competition will be held in the Mason Middle School arena, 770 S. Mason-Montgomery Road, Sunday.
Dance competition begins at 9 a.m. and cheering contests begin at noon.
More than 750 students on 40 cheer squads and 15 dance teams will participate in the Universal Cheerleading Association competition.
Monroe contract raises pay 2.5%
MONROE - Employees in the Monroe Local Schools will receive a 2.5 percent pay increase this year and in 2005. A new contract was approved this week.
The agreement with the Monroe Education Association is retroactive to July 1 and runs through June 30, 2006.
Future teacher gains pen pals
DEERFIELD TWP. - A soldier who hopes to become a teacher has been "adopted" by a South Lebanon Elementary School first-grade classroom.
Students in Peggy Allen's classroom will be writing letters to Cpl. Marvin Byrd, a 2000 Kings High School graduate, who is studying to be a teacher. He attended South Lebanon Elementary. Byrd was recently deployed to Kosovo, where he is expected to stay until April.
Language arts tutors needed
FAIRFIELD - West Elementary School is in need of volunteers for the Helping One Student to Succeed program. Volunteers would spend up to 50 minutes a week working with second-, third- or fourth-graders on language arts skills. To volunteer, call (513) 868-3021, Ext. 216.
