LAWRENCEBURG - Dearborn County will have two new commissioners and a new coroner after the November elections.
No incumbents are among the candidates for those offices.
Democrat Allen "Mooch" Cole is running against Jeff L. Hughes, a Republican, for the County Commission District 1 post. In the race for District 2, Richard L. Fox, a Republican from Guilford, is taking on Alvin O. Werner, a Democrat from Brookville.
In the race for coroner, Republican Wesley Holt of Lawrenceburg faces Kenneth J. Milish, a Democrat from Dillsboro.
In the race for Dearborn County Council at-large, incumbent Republicans Charlie Fehrman of Dillsboro, Mark Mitter of Guilford and Bill Ullrich of Aurora are being challenged by Democrats Doug Taylor of Lawrenceburg, Ben Turner of Aurora and Richard M. Ullrich Jr. of Aurora. Three seats are open.
Candidates for Dearborn Circuit Court judge, clerk of circuit court, county treasurer and county surveyor are all unopposed.
Indiana State Rep. Robert A. Hoffman, R-Connersville, is being challenged by Jay McGlothen, a Connersville Democrat, and John Marcum, the Libertarian-Liberty candidate, in the 55th district. State Rep. Robert Bischoff, D-Greendale, is being challenged by Libertarian Mike Goodpaster of Lawrenceburg in the 68th district.
Dearborn officials say the presidential election will drive voter turnout and polls are expected to be busy. Officials have not projected a turnout, but they say interest has been high.
"I think we are looking at a heavier turnout," said Gayle Pennington, Dearborn clerk of Circuit Court. "I think there is more interest in this year's election than usual."
The county has about 35,000 registered voters. In anticipation of the expected heavy turnout, there will be five offices around the county open for absentee voting Oct. 30.
