Price Hill needs City Hall's help

I was among many of the residents of Price Hill at the council meeting on Oct. 13. I did not find it informational. All I saw was the vice mayor in and out of her chair, rolling her eyes and not seeming concerned at anything that was being talked about. Other council members were also doing things, trying to get ready for, I guess their real meeting that was getting ready to happen. Years ago, Mayor Luken sent his daughter to a small school in Price Hill. Now that his daughter is grown, does he not even care about where that school sits anymore, or what type of activity is going on down here?

I know monies are tight, they are tight all over. Stop giving monies to stores to stay in town. Put money into the neighborhoods that need it.

Get council members who are not afraid to walk the streets at night or during the day where the crime is high. Find someone who really cares about our city. Because, if you don't, then all the good families, long-time families will leave. And then were will we be?

Don't forget other neighborhoods

The fight to save Price Hill is the fight to save Cincinnati ("Keep the faith with Price Hill," Oct. 12) is a slap in the face to the rest of Cincinnati. How insulting to the residents of OTR, Avondale, Bond Hill and all the other communities who have been fighting crime in their neighborhoods for years.

Now crime is knocking on the door of Chief Thomas Streicher and his coveted Westside neighborhood and it's time to take action. The Enquirer says forget about balanced budgets and address the issue of crime. We don't need more police. We need people to come out of their comfort zones, get to know their neighbors and get involved in their communities.

Report facts on Delta call centers

I am disappointed at the irresponsible reporting recently from local media speculating Delta Air Lines could close some of their call centers. Speculating Delta would close some of their centers - specifically downtown Cincinnati. Did anyone stop to get facts from the company? Or did you generate a story off of rumors?

An article ran in the Enquirer with the facts, "Delta hiring for call centers," (Oct. 9). Thank you James Pilcher for reporting the facts.

Why did the rest of the local media choose not to communicate this?

Bush should lose because of Iraq

In the article "Noonan: Kerry 'Worst Of Party" (Oct. 14), Peggy Noonan expresses her dislike of Sen. John Kerry's position on abortion. She goes on to say, "That reason alone is why he shouldn't be president."

I wonder if the 1000-plus young soldiers, who have died needlessly due to either the incredible stupidity or the willful deceit of our current president, had "the right to life"?

When it comes to casting my vote, that reason alone is why he shouldn't be president.

Schools need community support

I am the parent of two children in the Sycamore school system urging readers to vote yes on the November school levy. We speak of the community supporting our schools; we might better speak of schools supporting the community.

The Sycamore school district is demonstrating fiscal responsibility, while providing a first-class educational system. The 5.5 mill November levy is reasonable. Please support our schools, our children and our community.

Court should not limit death penalty

The Cincinnati Enquirer editorial board got it wrong when they opined "Court should bar juvenile executions" (Oct. 14).

Their arguments were based on world opinion and past decisions from our activist Supreme Court. Furthermore, it is wrong to say that juveniles are being executed. It is true that juveniles sometimes get sentenced to death. But unfortunately, they are more likely to die of old age than lethal injection.

Frankly, I don't know if it is a good idea for juveniles to be sentenced to death. But I do know that it is up to the people to decide the question through the legislative process; not via judicial fiat.
