Dean to speak at Miami campus
Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, who courted college-age voters during his unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, will speak at Miami University Thursday.As part of Miami's College Democrats' "Progressive Week," Dean will speak about the long-term implications of the presidential election. His talk begins at 8 p.m. at Millett Hall on Miami's Oxford campus. After the Democratic primaries earlier this year, Dean formed Democracy for America, which advocates for health care for all, investment in children, equal rights, fiscal responsibility; and a progressive national security policy.
Panel meeting discusses kids
A free program, "Why Other People's Children Matter: Election 2004," will run from 7:30-9 p.m. Monday at the Wise Center, 8329 Ridge Road, Amberley Village. A panel discussion will focus on education and the juvenile justice system and will include how the community's welfare is dependent upon citizens' responsibility not only to their own children, but to children in the community at large. The program is co-sponsored by American Jewish Committee Cincinnati Chapter; Wise Temple Political Advocacy Committee; the Interfaith Alliance of Greater Cincinnati; Reform Temple Retirees of Wise Temple; the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Institute for Justice; the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati; and Woman's City Club. Marianna Bettman of the University of Cincinnati College of Law will be moderator. Information: 621-4020.
Military people to be honored
Princeton High School is looking for local veterans and active military personnel. Princeton's A Cappella Choir and Symphonic Orchestra will present a Veterans Day Program at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the high school, 11080 Chester Road. It will feature "Prelude to Glory," a new work the A Cappella Choir recently premiered in Washington, D.C. In addition, the district will graduate two local Korean War Veterans, Gene Molen and Bill Hickey. TRAFFIC WATCH
Watch for the lane closures, both north and southbound, on Interstate 71, beginning today through Nov. 1 as crews repair and replace raised pavement markers between the Pfeiffer Road exit and Ohio 48 exit.
