New Bearcat in the broadcast booth

Sports broadcaster Jeff Piecoro is now doing basketball play-by-play for the 2004-05 University of Cincinnati Bearcats season on Channel 19. He shares the mike with former UC guard Anthony Buford, now in his eighth season in the booth.

If Piecoro's name sounds familiar it's because he's co-host with Dan Hoard of Real Reds on Fox Sports Net Ohio. He also hosts a sports talk show at 1360 Homer (WCKY-AM), and does Bengals pre- and post-game shows on WLW-AM (700).

Three Light Up Cincinnatis brighter than one

Here's why we'll have three Light Up Cincinnati nights this year when usually there's only one.

One was planned for Oct. 25 when ABC Monday Night Football is here for the Bengals vs. Denver game. All those blazing lights look pretty tasty on national TV.

But when ESPN came in for the Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins game Sept. 19, they wanted the same treatment ABC got.

After a flurry of phone calls by Anastasia Mileham, communications VP at Downtown Cincinnati Inc., parity was achieved.

Earlier this year, there was a Light Up for the opening of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center called Shine a Light on Freedom.

Another thing about the upcoming ABC football game: Channel 9, which has been dipping its toe into the waters of live production lately, will do a Prime Time Bengals special before the game. Sports anchor Dennis Janson, reporters John Popovich and Paula Faris and producer Amy Seng Holtzman will do the honors.

Host cookin' up some more jazz

Chef and radio host Nick Tolbert - 8 p.m. Sundays, WCIN-AM (1480) - is adding another live element to his show. So far, it's been about cooking, new restaurants and introducing new jazz CDs. Now he's worked out a deal to have featured artists call in and talk about their music and chefs to come in and talk about their restaurants.

Jazz legend George Duke is already lined up for Sundays in November, and Tolbert is working on several other artists, as well as his chef lineup.

Duran revisited

WKRQ-FM (101.9 FM) looks backward and forward today when it airs Duran Duran: The Naked Truth, a syndicated show that's part interview, part music ("Hungry Like a Wolf," "Rio," cuts from the new Astronaut CD).

Nothing is held back on the show, from what tore the group apart to what brought them back together, to Simon LeBond's boating accident and, well, Madonna's bathroom habits. The 1-hour special airs at 7 p.m.
