Mother, son killed in crash of van, semi
The Enquirer
WAYNE TWP. - A 29-year-old Sabina, Ohio, woman and her 12-year-old son were killed Tuesday evening when their minivan collided with a semi-tractor trailer at the intersection of Ohio 72 and Sabina Road in Clinton County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victims as Tonya A. Ray and Kelvin Ray.
The crash occurred about 6:15 p.m. when a 1994 Plymouth Voyager minivan driven by Tonya A. Ray failed to stop at a stop sign on eastbound Sabina Road and struck a 1995 Freightliner traveling south on Ohio 72, the highway patrol said. The semi, driven by David E. Blankenship, 46, of Martinsville, came to rest in the roadway and the van went off Ohio 72 into a ditch.
Three other children in the minivan were taken to Clinton Memorial Hospital. Kelsey Foster and Tasha Ray, both 10, were treated and released. Thomas Pennington, 5, was transferred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
