SILVERTON - Voters here will have a chance to change the portion of the city charter that requires the city solicitor to live in Hamilton County.
An amendment proposed by Silverton officials would allow the city solicitor to live in the neighboring counties of Butler, Warren and Clermont counties.
Mayor James Siegel said the proposed amendment would give the city a wider pool of candidates.
"We're just trying to open up the opportunity for the city."
The current solicitor is Mark VanderLaan.
VanderLaan plans to move from Hamilton County to Warren County, but that didn't instigate the effort to put the amendment on the ballot, Siegel said.
The amendment, he said, is part of an on-going effort by Silverton to update its charter, which was written in 1954.
