Unmasked

Halloween fun: Candlelight Singles will hold a Halloween party from 7:30-11 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Embers Restaurant, 8170 Montgomery Road. There will be prizes awarded all evening long. Masks are required. Cost is $40 plus the cost of your food; register at (800) 431-2411 or www.candlelightsingles.com.

Hail to the sweets

Election day never tasted so good: The folks at Busken bakeries are baking cookies with the likenesses of George Bush and John Kerry hand-stamped into the icing and distributing them to Remke markets, where officials will be keeping score: Buy your choice of the $1.25 each, ($13.99 a dozen) cookies to help the company predict the outcome of the presidential race. Cookie polls close at 11 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Family dinner

The food chain grows: Food Chain is a successful club where folks get together for meals and new friendships. But who says adults get to have all the fun? The organization will sponsor Food Chain Family at 1 p.m. at Moy Moy's Chinese Restaurant in Kenwood Saturday. Kids get lunch and a goodie bag of Chinese treats to take home. Cost is $10 per person. Space is limited, so make reservations at FoodChainFamily@yahoo.com.

Library sale

A book is a terrible thing to waste: Members of the Friends of the Public Library will hold a sale of used books culled from library shelves from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday at the Corryville Branch Library. You'll find lots of contemporary adult fiction and children's books, plus books on travel, business, science, cooking, decorating and self-improvement, and some videos, CDs and books on tape. Proceeds benefit the summer reading program and many of the free adult and children's programs. Information: (513) 369-6035.

Adoption

Learn more: The Tri-State Adoption Fair and Celebrating Families Conference will be Oct. 30 in the University Center of Northern Kentucky University. The fair, 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., is free and features representatives from more than 40 agencies and support groups. Fees for the conference, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., range from $10 for lunch to $50 for the entire package. Information: www.tristateadoptionfair.com or (513) 794-0595.

Finances

Look to the future: Waddell & Reed Financial Advisors will sponsor free workshops, "Are You Sure You Won't Outlive Your Money?" at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at their offices at Twin Towers, 5343 Hamilton Ave. They'll discuss financial planning and long-term care issues. Reservations required; (513) 985-9430.
