Amendment's support slips
Fifty-seven percent of likely voters intend to vote for Issue 1, the proposed constitutional amendment in Ohio that defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman, according to the Ohio Poll released Friday. There has been an 8 percentage-point drop in support for the proposed amendment since the question was asked in the September Ohio Poll.
The new poll found 57 percent in favor of the amendment, 40 percent opposed and 2 percent undecided. Nearly three-fourths (73 percent) of those who say they will vote for President Bush are for the amendment, while John Kerry voters are against the amendment, 55 percent to 42 percent. The results are based on a random sample of 757 likely voters interviewed by telephone between Ohio 11-17. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points. The poll is conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati.
