Web designer's work wins plaudits
POINT PLEASANT - A Southeast Ohio graphic designer has won three awards from the American Association of Webmasters for Web sites his firm created for customers in Greater Cincinnati.
Micheall A. Reed Design won the Gold Award for Excellence in Design and Content for the Monroe Township (Clermont County) site. It received the association's Silver Award for design of a Web site for New Richmond and a Bronze Award for Chaz Bridal and Consignment in Montgomery. Reed's design for its own Web site also took a bronze.

Young grads start gallery
BOND HILL - Two recent Cincinnati Country Day School graduates have launched an interactive, high-definition digital gallery for artists and advertisers.
J.R. Foster and David Hornberger are the entrepreneurs behind Digital Avante-Garde Expressions (Digital AGE), which uses interactive plasma-screen technology to promote artwork, products and services. The flat-screen monitors can be placed at public gathering spots for upwardly mobile professionals ages 25 to 50.
Hornberger said the benefits of Digital AGE technology include the ability to promote products and services during the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and an artist's ability to exhibit work in multiple locations simultaneously.
The technology will previewed Wednesday, Nov. 3 at The Pavillion in Mount Adams.

Box Man now takes orders on Internet
BLUE ASH - A local company that found success selling its boxes and related moving supplies has moved to the Web.
Jack Norris, owner of The Box Man, has been in business since 1997 selling and delivering professional-quality moving boxes at discount prices.
Now The Box Man is taking orders online, thanks to a new Web site. As always, orders are delivered to the customer's location.
The Web site was developed by Mitchell Consulting.

Avis car rental business opens
MIDDLETOWN - A new car rental agency opened this weekend.
Lanny and Jennifer Haley are the owners of L&J Auto Rental, an authorized Avis Rent A Car agency at 6475 Culbertson Road.
"We are the first Avis agency in Middletown," Lanny Haley said, adding that the company will target people whose cars are being repaired or people who plan driving vacations.
L&J is open seven days a week.

Internet monitor software available
LOVELAND - A technology specialist is marketing software that allows parents to oversee their children's online activity or workplace supervisors to monitor Internet use.
William C. McCoy has opened Eyes on the Net, whose products include a complete Internet monitoring package, an e-mail notification application and a corporate monitoring system.
"As parents, we have a huge responsibility to create a safe environment for our kids to exist in," McCoy said. "Today, over 20 percent of kids using the Internet are approached by an Internet predator."
The company's Web site details the monitoring packages and offers an online safety quiz for children. Eyes on the Net is a division of Loveland-based CMAC Root Solutions.

Dollar Saver store opens in Edgewood
EDGEWOOD - There's a new bargain store at the Kmart Plaza.
Dollar Saver Inc. has opened its third location in Northern Kentucky at 3095 Dixie Highway.
"Dollar Saver stores are retail stores where all items are $1," said owner Todd Whitaker.
The company is a family-owned area chain.
Whitaker opened his first Dollar Saver at 208 Mount Zion Road in Florence in 1999.
A second Florence location, at 4971 Houston Road, followed.

Nurse now advises legal profession
PLEASANT RIDGE - After 32 years in the nursing profession, Brenda Heile has opened a business that helps attorneys understand medical practice and language.
Heile is now a certified legal nurse consultant and the owner of NurseExperts LLC.
"CLNCs offer consulting and expert testimony in cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, product liability, toxic/environmental torts, insurance issues and much more," Heile said. NurseExperts can perform services such as screening medical records, assessing injury and identifying expert witnesses. The company is a member of the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
