"We have been absolutely hammered," Hatter said of his personal health insurance plan. "Our premiums were $600 a month, which was a lot. Now it's just under $1,000 a month."

The three-employee company wants to provide a company-sponsored plan to make it a more attractive place to work and because it's the right thing to do.

"But if it's stay in business or go out of business, that's a pretty simple decision. As the lever continues to tip and price goes up, we have to re-evaluate level and quality versus the cost."

Hatter once worked at a drugstore in Covington and thinks that far too many people get far too many drugs for infirmities that are not too serious.
