DEFIANCE, Ohio - The unbeaten Mount St. Joseph Lions, ranked 25th in Division III, scored two quick touchdowns in the final 90 seconds of the second quarter to take a 21-2 halftime lead en route to a 41-10 victory over Defiance on Saturday.
The Mount improved to 7-0, 4-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Defiance (0-6, 0-3) mustered 131 yards of total offense and 22:25 in time of possession; the Mount accumulated 394 yards and more than 37 minutes of ball control.
Quarterback Bryan Hamrock (South Dearborn) threw three touchdown passes - two to Andy Wellendorf (Elder) and one to Don Haggard.
Thomas More 45, Anderson 38
The Saints rallied from a 31-7 second-quarter deficit for the Homecoming victory.
Junior quarterback Nate Berkley (Bellevue) accounted for 287 of the Saints' 374 yards.
Berkley went 12-of-27 for 199 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed for another 88 yards on 13 carries. Feshman wideout Chase Weber (Beechwood) caught three TD passes.
Dayton 49, Butler 10
DAYTON - Ryan Wrobleski caught six passes for 118 yards and scored one of Dayton's four second-quarter touchdowns, and the Flyers rushed for 345 yards in a 49-10 rout of Butler on Saturday.
Matt Mong scored on runs of 21 and 1 yard, Kevin Hoyng ran 4 yards for a touchdown and Wrobleski pulled in a 30-yard TD pass from Brandon Staley as the Flyers (7-1, 2-0 Pioneer League) scored 28 consecutive points for a 28-3 lead. Dayton had five rushing touchdowns and used 14 players to carry the ball 64 times.
The Bulldogs (1-7, 0-2) were held to 52 yards on 36 rushes.
Wilmington 20, Otterbein 13
WILMINGTON, Ohio - Corey Smith threw a 51-yard touchdown pass and ran 12 yards for the go-ahead score with 1:19 remaining.
Otterbein (1-6, 0-6 Ohio Conference) had scored 13 consecutive points in a two-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to tie the score 13-all.
Smith completed 15 of 29 passes for 215 yards and ran for 57 yards on 13 carries.
Jermaine Isaac led the Quakers (3-4, 3-3) with 167 yards rushing on 22 carries, including a 5-yard TD in the first quarter.
Mount Union 41, Ohio Northern 27
ADA, Ohio - Zac Bruney passed for 327 yards and four touchdowns, and top-ranked Mount Union scored the final 21 points to rally past Ohio Northern, extending two long winning streaks. It was the 101st consecutive regular-season win for the Purple Raiders (7-0, 6-0 Ohio Conference) and their 91st straight victory in the OAC.
