Make yourself a mix of ghoulish sounds
Don't get sucked into a "Monster Mash" rut this Halloween. Sure, the tune by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers is a classic, but there are plenty more spooky songs out there to get you into a rockin' holiday mood. Here are 10 tracks to put on your mix tape (or mix CD, if you're a tech-savvy kind of ghoul).
1. "Modified Frankenstein," Cobra Verde
2. "Dead Man's Party," Oingo Boingo
3. "Everyday is Halloween," Ministry
4. "Living Dead Girl," Rob Zombie
5. "Werewolves of London," Warren Zevon
6. "The Midnight Creep," Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
7. "Halloween," Siouxsie and the Banshees
8. "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," Blue Oyster Cult
9. "A Nightmare on My Street," DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince
10. "Season of the Witch," Donovan (Richard
Thompson, Luna and Zeke do great covers, too)
If you're too busy concocting the perfect costume to mix it up yourself, you can pick up one of the many Halloween-themed compilations out there. Here are a few to check out, along with a standout track from each: Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Halloween ("Pet Semetary," The Ramones); Halloween Hootenanny ("I Drink Blood," Rocket from the Crypt); Have a Howlin' Halloween ("Feed
My Frankenstein," Alice Cooper).
