No matter what you wear, , you'll be sure to be up-to-the-moment by simply adding a brooch. Worn alone on a background of black velvet, as a signature piece to a favorite suite, at the waist, on a watch cap or grouped on a sweater, a la Sarah Jessica Parker in her retro-ready Gap ads, you decide how far to go with the real thing or vintage bling.
A trip to fine jeweler Tiffany & Co., downtown, will net you sets of butterflies, dragonflies, lizards and other critters from the Nature collection. A stop at a vintage clothing store, antique emporium or even a yard sale may mean the price is right enough to indulge in a handful of brooches.
Of course, the most fiscally responsible way to go is mom's jewelry box.
Department stores, deep discounters, everywhere you go, you'll be sure to find the relatively modern equivalent of an accessory dating to Egypt, 3000 B.C.
