TRENTON - Chad Nugent agreed with everything U.S. Rep. John Boehner said Tuesday. But he won't be voting for the congressman next week - he's too young.
The 17-year-old Edgewood High School senior said if he could, he would vote for the West Chester Republican and for President George W. Bush.
But Boehner wouldn't get the support of 17-year-old Becca Taylor, who describes her political views as liberal to moderate.
"He had well-thought out answers and I was kind of surprised when he said the government doesn't do a good job on some things," said Taylor.
Boehner spent an hour with Edgewood seniors two days before he begins an Ohio Republican Party "victory tour" across Ohio by bus. He responded to students' questions about issues ranging from stem cell research to balancing the budget.
"He kept to the Republican (platform). I did a lot of research on it before he came," Nugent said. "I thought it was really good. I agreed with everything he said."
Nathanial Wagner didn't agree with everything Boehner said, but the 18-year-old thought Boehner answered questions better than his opponent, Jeff Hardenbrook, a Dayton Democrat who spoke to the seniors earlier this year. Two years ago Boehner captured 72 percent of the vote against Hardenbrook.
"He was more to the point and answered all our questions directly," Wagner said. "But I'm leaning toward still undecided on both (8th Congressional and presidential) races."
