The early word: Jump on your weekend

LAST MINUTE

Local stages get political: As Election Day approaches, smaller theaters are announcing late-breaking performances.

Columbus' BlueForms Theatre Group comes to town with InVulnerable, promising to "examine political events and philosophy in post-9/11 America."

InVulnerable plays at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Gabriel's Corner, 1425 Sycamore (at Liberty) in Over-the-Rhine, presented by Know Theatre Tribe. Both performances are pay-what-you-can. (513) 300-5669.

New Voice Theater offers Dear George: Letters to the President at 8 p.m. Friday at Cincinnati Museum Center's Reakirt Auditorium. Letters is a compilation of Americans' open letters to President Bush written between Memorial Day and Labor Day this year.

The letters come from all 50 states and cover a wide range of opinions on major issues including Iraq, the economy, gay marriage and 9/11. Tickets are $10 and available by calling (513) 241-2866 or going online at www.theatreconnection.com.

Political movie: This year's extraordinary string of pre-election documentaries about American politics winds down at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Lookout Cinema, 3187 Linwood Ave., with a screening of The World According to Bush, a critical assessment from French filmmaker William Karel. Tickets are $8. (513) 321-7999.

Crypt tunes: Don't forget to tune in WGUC-FM's (90.9) hugely popular annual Halloween special. This year it's a double-header called Tunes from the Crypt Returns and Tunes from the Crypt Goes to the Movies. The four-hour broadcast with narrator Mark Perzel includes works from John Williams ("Devil's Dance"), Mussorgsky ("Night on Bald Mountain"), and dozens more. Catch it 6-10 p.m. Friday. Movies repeats at 8 p.m. Sunday. The Movies soundtrack is also available at www.wguc.org/store for $13.99.

Local 'Investigations': Look for Mandy McMillian on Medical Investigations Friday (10 p.m., Channel 5). The 29-year-old Simon Kenton High School grad from Independence is making her network TV debut.

The West Coast resident has already appeared in commercials for Tylenol Cold Medicine, Office Depot, Buick, Six Flags, Charles Schwab and Hidden Valley Ranch, but this is her first dramatic role. You'll see her at the show's opening, a bridal shower scene where she gives the bride-to-be some sexy lingerie, then discovers her a few minutes later sick unto death and lying on the bathroom floor. After McMillian gives a good yelp, the Medical Investigations team - a cross between ER and CSI - tries to find out what's ailing the bride.
