Randall directs Hokies to victory
The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Bryan Randall threw for 304 yards and two long touchdowns in the fourth quarter as No. 22 Virginia Tech, stifled much of the night, rallied for a 34-20 victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday.
Randall threw an 80-yard scoring pass to Eddie Royal with 5:28 remaining, then completed another pass for the tying 2-point conversion.
On the Hokies' next series, the quarterback ran for 32 yards, then connected with Josh Morgan on a 51-yard TD with 3:10 remaining.
Roland Minor went 64 yards with an interception return in the final minute, capping a 25-point fourth quarter for the Hokies (6-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
BlLETNIKOFF AWARD: Taylor Stubblefield of Purdue and Dante Ridgeway of Ball State are among the 11 semifinalists announced for the Biletnikoff Award, given each year to college football's best receiver.
Ridgeway leads the nation with 77 catches and 889 yards, while Stubblefield is the leader with 11 touchdown receptions. Stubblefield also is the Big Ten career receptions leader, and Ridgeway needs 11 yards to become the first Ball State player to reach 1,000 yards receiving twice.
The other candidates for the honor, named for Oakland Raiders and Florida State great Fred Biletnikoff, include Oklahoma's Mark Clayton, a finalist last year, along with Braylon Edwards, Michigan; Santonio Holmes, Ohio State; David Anderson, Colorado State; Derek Hagan, Arizona State; Chris Henry, West Virginia; Earvin Johnson, UNLV; Chad Owens, Hawaii; and Troy Williamson, South Carolina.
Three finalists will be announced Nov. 15. The winner will be announced in December at the ESPN awards show at Walt Disney World and honored in February in Tallahassee.
