U.S. Senate
U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, who is seeking his second six-year term, is being challenged by Democratic state Sen. Eric Fingerhut. Both men agree that jobs is the key issue in this campaign, though they disagree on how to turn around Ohio's economy that has lost about 200,000 jobs, mainly manufacturing, since 2001. A U.S. senator earns $158,100 a year.
George V. Voinovich
Age: 68
Party: Republican
Resides in: Cleveland
Profession: U.S. senator
Key issue in race: "We are now in a global marketplace. Some of the things we've done in the past and some of the policies need to be re-evaluated. I'm very concerned about jobs in Ohio, and there's no one in the Senate who has done more in terms of manufacturing jobs."
Eric D. Fingerhut
Age: 45
Party: Democrat
Resides in: Shaker Heights
Profession: State senator
Key issue in race: "Getting Ohio's economy moving, and creating good jobs for Ohioans. What (Voinovich) has been doing is supporting policies that are draining investment away from Ohio's economy. I've proposed a series of policies I believe will move us forward."
