Candidates have all gone away (almost)
Presidential notebook
News alert: Only one presidential candidate is expected in Ohio today: President Bush.
After Sunday night's rally in Cincinnati and Monday's rally in Wilmington, President Bush's schedule shows him voting today in Crawford, Texas, then traveling to Columbus for less than an hour to thank volunteers and supporters before returning to Washington. He's scheduled to spend the rest of the week at the White House, with a Cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Sen. John Kerry added another late Toledo-area rally Monday night after what was supposed to be a big Cleveland finale, but his schedule shows him voting in Massachusetts today.
"From day one, John Kerry said he would fight until the last minute in Ohio, and on Monday night, he'll do just that," said J.B. Poersch, state director for the Kerry campaign in Ohio.
Final instructions
Both campaigns sent out mass e-mails Monday:
From Democratic National Chairman Terry McAuliffe: "Call your family. Knock on your neighbors' doors. Pester your coworkers. Make sure everyone you know gets out there and votes for Democrats. It is especially urgent that you contact the people you know in battleground states and urge them to vote."
From Bush campaign chairman Marc Racicot: "During the day or when you get home at night, use your free minutes to reach out across the country, or across town; call 15 voters, and remind them to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2."
They said it
"When President Kerry sits down at his desk in the White House for the first time, he'll place his lucky buckeye on his desk and spend four years fighting for the people of Ohio."
- J.B. Poersch, state director for the Kerry campaign in Ohio.
