COLUMBUS - A 12-year-old boy was killed when a porch roof on an unoccupied inner-city house collapsed on him.
Witnesses say Dwayne Gordon was playing on the porch with two other boys when the accident happened Saturday night.
A neighbor said the three boys were on the porch when one of them picked up a banister and, swinging it around, hit the supports, apparently causing the collapse.
Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis ruled the boy's death accidental. Lewis said he died of blunt trauma to the head and body.
Police say it's still unclear how the porch roof fell on the seventh-grader. They're looking for the other two boys.
Next-door neighbor Les Walker said it didn't look like the porch supports were meant to be permanent.
Walker, 73, said boys hung out on the porch before but didn't seem to cause any trouble.
Franklin County auditor's records show the 2,450-square-foot house is owned by Tawndrea C. Owens, who bought it in June 1999.
Neighbors said the occupants moved three or four months ago. No one had moved in since.
Owens couldn't be reached for comment. There was no listing for Tawndrea C. Owens.
