Election coverage, 7 p.m., various networks.

Wrapping up one of the angriest races in American history, networks report and analyze the results. Expect them to do it cautiously - especially after the mistakes in 2000.

Most networks start their coverage at 7 p.m., but offer an option. Some stations will carry their syndicated shows as usual, then join the networks at 8 p.m.

PBS jumps in at 10 p.m.; so does Comedy Central with its brilliant The Daily Show going live.

Then there is CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and C-SPAN. They'll officially start at 7 p.m. or sooner; they'll obsess all day.

Best alternative

Kevin Hill (8 p.m.) and Veronica Mars (9 p.m.), Channel 25

This is a big night for UPN with new episodes from two of the season's best new dramas.

Kevin Hill has Taye Diggs as a once-brash lawyer, now raising his orphaned baby niece. Tonight, he defends a hockey star who was fired after a fight. And Kevin's gay nanny moves into the apartment.

Veronica Mars has Kristen Bell as a teenage detective. Tonight, she probes school election fraud. Also, Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna (married in real life) play the parents of a scandalized student.

Worth watching

Catch Me If You Can (2002), 6:30 p.m., HBO. Steven Spielberg nimbly directed this fun romp. It's the true story of a young guy (Leonardo DiCaprio) who faked his way into professions while passing bad checks. Tom Hanks stars as the bumbling federal agent pursuing him.

Nova: Volcano's Deadly Warning, 8 p.m.,

Channels 48, 16. Alongside spectacular volcano footage, this rerun tells of efforts to detect warning signs more quickly.

Gilmore Girls, 8 p.m., Channels 64, 26. Lorelai doesn't want her parents to mess up things with Luke.

World Cup Comedy, 8 p.m., Pax. Improvisational comedy teams pretend to be bus passengers, heading to Las Vegas.

The Godfather (1972), 8 p.m., AMC. Election-skippers can savor Francis Ford Coppola's classic. Al Pacino stars with Marlon Brando, James Caan, Diane Keaton and more.

One Tree Hill, 9 p.m., Channels 64, 26. Haley is nervous about performing at the teen nightclub.

Cold Turkey, 9 and 10 p.m., Pax . In a change, Pax will have this reality show - with housemates trying to quit smoking - Tuesdays. Starting next week, new episodes will air at 10 p.m. First, catch up with these reruns: At
