Local listeners share their playlists
From the Beatles to the blues, Eminem to Neil Diamond, local satellite radio fanatics are dialing in a universe of music, talk and special programming. Looking for relief from advertising interruptions on their favorite terrestrial radio stations, they are expanding their listening horizons and having a great, commercial-free, time in the process.
Felicia Burger, 44, Monfort Heights
Burger and her family were introduced to XM a couple of months ago, when it was included with their new car.
ESPN Radio and ESPN News: Burger's four sons, all play and follow sports. They can't get enough of the news, scores and stats on these two stations, she says.
Sporting News Radio: The boys also enjoy this station's lively discussions and commentary about the sports issues of the day.
The Blend: Several decades' worth of lighter-side hits, from the Beatles to Sheryl Crow. Burger says the music's soft slant is ideal for when she needs to relax.
James Carr, 46, Roselawn
Three years ago, Carr got a Sirius radio for his automobile; he also listens online.
Shade 45: Carr switches among this new station, created in part by rapper Eminem, and Sirius' other three hip-hop stations, which spin everything from old school rap to cutting-edge freestyle jams. "They play a lot of things that Cincinnati stations probably couldn't and wouldn't play," Carr says.
Classic Rewind and Totally '70s: These two stations play Carr's favorite rock and pop tunes from the '70s.
Sirius Blues: The past, present and future stars of blues music get equal time on this station's playlist.
