As the elections have shown once again, voter turnout is critical. To that end, Kids Voting Northern Kentucky hosted a benefit at Newport's Coconut Grove to support the work volunteers do to foster responsible, informed voters.
The evening of dinner, drinks and auction, attended by nearly 300, honored retiring Kentucky state Rep. Jim Callahan. Honorary chairs included developer Wayne Carlisle, Alice Sparks, Newport Mayor Tom Guidugli, Covington Mayor Butch Callery, Bellevue Mayor Jack Meyer, state Rep. Jon Draud and Campbell County Judge-executive Steve Pendery.
Kids Voting is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization teaching children about elections and the freedom to vote. A total of 8,804 children voted in a mock election Tuesday, according to Carri Chandler, chair of the Kids Voting Northern Kentucky Board.
