LOUISVILLE - Louisville police are increasing patrols in some parts of the city after a rash of shootings last week.
Two people were shot Saturday in western Louisville; one of them died Sunday morning.
The shootings occurred less than a day after a shooting Friday night left two people dead and three wounded in the city's Shawnee neighborhood.
Police said the shootings are unrelated, and officials are calling on residents to help police stop the violence.
The death of Jahara Watters of Shepherdsville early Sunday at University of Louisville Hospital was the city's 59th homicide this year, and sixth since Wednesday.
Watters, 35, was shot early Saturday by another man after leaving Billy's Place, a nightclub on West Broadway, police said.
One group, the Louisville African American Think Tank, has urged Mayor Jerry Abramson and Police Chief Robert White to implement an emergency curfew in the area of the shootings for two or three weeks.
Under the proposal, youths ages 13 to 20 would have to be indoors by 8 p.m.
Abramson and White said their focus is to increase police patrols in areas where the shootings have occurred.
