READING - City officials say they're waiting to see what unfolds after warrants were issued for the arrest of Reading's public works director on gun and alcohol charges.
Clermont County authorities said Monday they have issued two warrants for Gerald R. Glaser Jr., 49, after an incident at his Miami Township residence.
Glaser called 911 about 7:15 p.m. Friday from a neighbor's house, saying he had fired six shots at intruders inside his home in the 300 block of Wards Corner Road, said Detective John Swing of Miami Township Police.
According to police, officers did not find evidence of intruders, and recovered several spent ammunition casings.
Glaser's blood-alcohol level tested at 0.101, Swing said. Drivers are considered to be intoxicated with a level of 0.08, he said.
Police said they took Glaser to Clermont Mercy Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
He faces charges of discharging weapons inside a home, a second-degree felony, and using firearms while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor, police said.
"We've made no decisions," said Reading Mayor Robert "Bo" Bemmes.
Bemmes said Glaser had worked for the city for more than 25 years, and had been public works director for more than a decade.
"We're just really sad that it's happened," Bemmes said.
Safety-Service Director Albert "Bud" Elmlinger said he was overseeing the public works department for now.
Glaser is in charge of a 17-employee department that handles street repairs, snow removal and grounds maintenance. He is paid nearly $70,000 annually.
