The Cincinnati Enquirer
Ohio Gov. Bob Taft's approval rating has dropped 26 percentage points since just before he was re-elected, according to the latest Ohio Poll.
The poll found that only 40 percent of those surveyed approved of Taft's job performance, the lowest for a governor since 1983 when Richard Celeste was in office. Forty-eight percent disapproved of Taft's performance, the worst rating ever recorded for a governor. Another 12 percent weren't sure how to rate his performance.
Taft is trying to manage a state budget deficit. The legislature has resisted his call for higher taxes. Taft says he will have to make more budget cuts.
The Ohio Poll is conducted by the University of Cincinnati. The poll surveyed 843 residents between Feb. 7-23. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
