Springer postpones campaign announcement

COLUMBUS -- Fans and foes of Jerry Springer will have to wait until Wednesday to find out if he'll really run for the Senate.
The talk show host and former Cincinnati mayor was supposed to announce his decision today. Instead campaign spokesman Dale Butland confirmed that Springer needs a few more days to make up his mind.
"It's obviously a huge decision with many ramifications -- not just for Jerry and his family but also for the constituency he cares about and the Democratic party he loves," Butland said in a written statement.
Springer has scheduled an afternoon news conference in downtown Columbus next Wednesday.
While Springer has spoken at several Democratic Party events across Ohio, aired a 30-minute infomercial about his political aspirations and filed official candidacy papers, Butland continues to insist his boss is not yet a candidate.
State Sen. Eric Fingerhut, D-Cleveland, who has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination, has said he believes Springer is a candidate. Incumbent GOP Sen. George Voinovich is brushing off questions about Springer, saying he's the Democratic Party's "problem."
Butland said Springer still needs to decide if he can overcome the negative publicity of his show. The title of today's episode was "Baby You're Busted!"
