Exit polling is allowed today

Several national news organizations defeated an attempt by Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell to prohibit exit polling within 100 feet of polling places.

The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Michael Watson granted a temporary restraining order that prevents Blackwell from blocking exit polling. The legal challenge was brought by ABC, CNN, CBS NBC, Fox News and the Associated Press.

Blackwell contended that exit polling could impede the voting process, but the court found no merit to that argument.

"Polling activities such as these have been conducted in this manner for over two decades. There is no evidence before the Court that these activities have ever impinged on a citizen's right to vote," wrote Watson.
