UNION - One man is dead after a crash in Boone County this morning.

Boone County Sheriff's Department Lt. Col. Rob Reuthe said officers responded at 10:35 a.m. to the scene, in which a pickup truck was turning off Beaver Road when the driver failed to yield the right-of-way, pulled out and collided with a dump truck westbound on U.S. 42.

The driver of the pickup truck, whom authorities did not identify, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt, Reuthe said. Police are unsure whether he was trying to proceed straight or make a turn. The roads were wet from rain when the crash happened.

The driver of the dump truck, identified by an acquaintance and witness at the scene as Ronny Anderson, was transported to St. Luke Hospital West with minor arm injuries, the sheriff's lieutenant said. Reuthe did not immediately identify the driver's name.

No charges had been immediately filed and speed was not a factor in the accident, according to Reuthe.

"The coroner will do tests for blood-alcohol level, and drugs on the driver of the pickup," he said.
