Bond Hill scene of two killings
The Cincinnati Enquirer
BOND HILL - This Cincinnati neighborhood saw two killings Monday, one of whom was the stepson of a well-known former assistant police chief.
Allen Shannon, 30, of Bond Hill, was found shot just after 8 p.m. in a car on Carolina Avenue. His stepfather is ex-Lt. Col. Ron Twitty, the only African-American officer to attain the second-in-command rank in Cincinnati.
Shannon's death came less than five hours after - and within about three blocks of - the discovery of the body of Daniel White, 21, of Winton Terrace. White was found in an alley off Matlock Avenue after someone called 911.
Officials were not certain how long White had been lying there. Neighbors said they heard shots Sunday night. The alley is across the street from Bond Hill Elementary School and the neighborhood recreation center.
The killings increased Bond Hill's number of homicides this year to four, tying the neighborhood with Westwood, Millvale and Northside for the fourth most likely places to be a homicide victim in Cincinnati.
Both victims had criminal records. Shannon pleaded no contest in August to drug possession and was fined $100. He was put on probation in 2001 for possession of marijuana.
White, who just turned 21 two weeks ago, was sent to prison in 2002 for theft. He also was put on probation last year for receiving stolen property.
Twitty resigned last year as part of a plea deal to resolve a criminal case over damage to his city-owned vehicle.
