Winton Woods' Tipton wears many shoes

Winton Woods senior Carlos Tipton is the type of player every coach dreams of having on his football team.
Tipton, a 6-foot-4, 195-pounder, is a leader both on and off the field. On the field, he will fill three roles for coach Troy Everhart: running back, linebacker and kicker. Off the field, Tipton is a good student who isn't afraid to mentor others.
A kid of Carlos' caliber needs to be on the field as much as possible, Everhart said. He has a knack for making plays.
Tipton is a straight-ahead runner with exceptional speed. He runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and is a two-time district champion in the 110 high hurdles.
All the MAC schools have made offers, and the Big Ten schools are also showing interest, especially Ohio State because of his track accomplishments, Everhart said.
In addition, Tipton takes great pride in blocking. He played a crucial role in Winton Woods' running attack last year. While splitting time with a group of running backs, Tipton learned to excel at blocking.
Carlos is a team player. He is always willing to sacrifice personal goals for the good of the team, Everhart said.
This season Tipton will return to the defensive side of the ball. He will switch to linebacker after playing defensive end as a sophomore.
He is a smart football kid who adapts quickly, Everhart said. He plays from sideline to sideline and goes with the flow well.
Tipton is at the heart of a team hungry to make the playoffs. Last season the Warriors dropped games to Turpin and Fairfield in the final three games and missed out on the postseason.
Last year we felt we let the school down, Everhart said. This year, anything short of the playoffs will be a disappointment.
