Democrats delay, move meeting

The Cincinnati Enquirer

The moratorium on political campaigning this week because of Ronald Reagan's funeral forced another cancellation Tuesday: the Democratic National Committee's planned Friday Platform Committee meeting in Columbus.

Democrats had hoped to use the event - a rare platform hearing outside the national convention in July - to talk about what they call President Bush's dismal record of job creation in industrial states such as Ohio.

Democrats have moved the date and location of the meeting to June 18 in Santa Fe, N.M.

The campaign is encouraging Ohioans with an interest in the economic platform to e-mail their comments to, or send via fax at 202-572-7897, or by mail to Democratic National Committee, 430 South Capitol St., S.E., Washington, D.C. 20003.

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Cleveland, chairs the Platform Committee.
